Financial analyst Kevin Paffrath criticized Elon Musk's comments on Tesla's recent earnings call.

Financial analyst Kevin Paffrath did not mince words when critiquing Elon Musk's performance during Tesla's third-quarter earnings call. Paffrath, a prominent YouTuber with nearly 1.9 million subscribers and a Tesla stockholder, characterized Musk's demeanor as childlike, even going so far as to describe the call as "terrible." Musk's apparent emotional state during the call, including what Paffrath perceived as a moment of near tears, drew sharp criticism.

He said Musk blamed the EV maker's struggles on economic factors instead of "coming up with a plan."

Paffrath's primary critique was directed at Musk's propensity to attribute Tesla's challenges to economic factors, rather than presenting a concrete strategy to address the issues at hand. One particular point of contention was Musk's comments about the proposed gigafactory in Mexico. Musk's approach to handling rising interest rates, which he cited as a reason for delaying the factory, drew Paffrath's disapproval. Paffrath suggested that Musk should instead negotiate more effectively with the Mexican government or explore advertising in higher-income areas. He emphasized the need for a clear path forward for Tesla's investors.

Tesla's third-quarter results fell short of analysts' expectations.

Tesla's third-quarter financial results failed to meet analysts' expectations, with earnings per share and revenue reaching $23.35 billion. This underperformance resulted in a 15% decrease in the company's stock over the past week, despite a remarkable 96% year-to-date increase. Paffrath is not the sole critic, as other analysts, including Dan Ives from Wedbush Securities, joined in the assessment, describing the earnings call as a "mini disaster." Musk's cautious tone regarding high interest rates and the prospects of the Cybertruck also came under scrutiny. As of the time of reporting, Tesla had not issued an official response to these criticisms.
